Cassano compares De Ketelaere to big Inter flop

Antonio Cassano compares AC Milan attacking midfielder Charles De Ketelaere to former teammate who face similar difficultes at San Siro.

Charles De Ketelaere has failed to live up to expectations in his first year at AC Milan. The young Belgian attacking midfielder is finding it difficult to make an impact in Serie A as demonstrated by his performances on several occasions this season. The Belgian has yet to find his first goal and has only one assist to his name in 29 appearances.

Former AC Milan forward Antonio Cassano returned to talked about De Ketelaere. Cassano compared Charles to Ricky Alvarez, an Argentine playmaker who flopped during his time in Italy. “I believe in De Ketelaere and I continue to wait for him but he must step up”, said Cassano.

“Charles De Ketelaere reminds me of Ricky Alvarez with whom I played at Inter. From Monday to Saturday Alvarez was stratospheric, he reminded me of Recoba. But when he set foot inside the San Siro he hid… despite having impressive qualities” explained Antonio Cassano.

Alvarez was an important signing of Inter in 2011. The talented attacking midfielder arrived from South America for 12 million euros having done great things in the local league. Alvarez too failed to make an impact at San Siro. Despite the initial noise, he left Inter after three seasons totaling 90 appearances and scoring 14 goals.

Meanwhile the Rossoneri hope that De Ketelaere will be able to turn things around. AC Milan ae confident that the 21-year-old will evntualy settle in and make an impact. Just like Rafael Leao and Sandro Tonali faced difficulties in their first year with the Red and Blacks but then became key figures for Stefano Pioli’ squad.
